Does Valentino Rossi want Pedro Acosta in the VR46 Academy?

An innocent visit to 'The Ranch' or a chance to talk business, will Pedro Acosta ride for VR46 in the future?

Pedro Acosta's time at Valentino Rossi's Ranch last week for 'La 100km Dei Campioni' has sparked several rumours.

Although it is not the first time that Acosta and Rossi have met at 'The Ranch', it seems this time there may have been 'business talks' between the nine-time and two-time World Champions.

“More than the flat track challenge, Pedro and Valentino seem to be more interested in an exchange of words ‘face-to-face’ on a future that is already today,” a report in Gazzetta states.

“The 9-time world champion from Pesaro has clear ideas and – it is said – he already has the ‘coup’ in his sights: bringing Acosta into his VR46.

“When? As soon as possible. We will see.”

Could these rumours become a reality?

Acosta's rise to superstar status in MotoGP has been nothing short of astronomic. The Spaniard won the Moto3 World Championship in his rookie year in 2021, before winning the Moto2 World Championship in his second year in the class in 2023.

The 20-year-old made his MotoGP debut in 2024 with KTM's satellite squad Tech3. After an impressive rookie season, Acosta has been promoted to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team for 2025.

However, KTM now has major worries off the track due to their heavily publicised financial issues. The Austrian manufacturer has debts that amount to approximately €1.8 billion. Although KTM has insisted several times that their racing projects will not be impacted it seems Rossi could be preparing for a worst-case scenario for KTM.

Rossi's Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team are now Ducati's lead satellite team and will be in possession of a factory Ducati in 2025.

If Acosta wants to ride for Ducati his easiest route into the Italian manufacturer would be through Rossi. There will be no rider moves ahead of the 2025 MotoGP season due to contract issues. However, Acosta could move to VR46 as early as 2026.
