Ducati Lenovo officially launched its 20th MotoGP campaign on Monday, celebrating the ‘unbreakable bonds’ of the Italian marque’s successful history.
With the Desmosedici GP22s ablaze in traditional ‘Ducati red’ for the first time in its world championship career, Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller spoke of the support within the factory outfit which allowed them to secure second and fourth in the world championship, alongside the team and manufacturers titles in 2021, with both striving for more this time around.
“We live together as a family” Ducati Corse Sporting Director, Paolo Ciabatti confirmed from the launch. “We enjoy success and we try to support each other’s when there is a failure.”
“I grew up with the idea and the desire that one day I would become a rider,” Bagnaia said. “This is my second year with the factory team. I’ve always been driven by that desire and its always given me that push to get there one day. A fundamental thing for me is to arrive at the pits and feel a relaxed atmosphere. I need to have a strong bond with the people I work with. We joke, we have fun but when it’s time to get serious we get down to work and we make it perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
“In my opinion Ducati, the way that they put the team together, I think they show a lot of love and you can tell there’s a lot of support there,” Miller added.
“The Championship is finally about to start, and I feel ready more than ever to face this new season” the Australian confirmed. “Having another year of experience in MotoGP under my belt definitely makes me feel stronger, and I feel I have improved a lot, both physically and mentally, compared to 2021. It will be my second year with the Ducati Lenovo Team, a group of people who are really passionate about Motorsports, and I feel lucky to be part of it.
“Being a factory Ducati rider is a source of pride, and it means having the support of many fans, not only in Italy but also all over the world. I can’t wait for March and be able to head out on track for the first race of the year in Qatar!”
“I’m happy for the start of this new season,” Bagnaia continued. “We’ve ended 2021 on a high, and I hope to continue 2022 from where we left off last year. My team and I have grown a lot since then. I feel good with my team, and I’m sure that we can do great things together.
“The Desmosedici GP in this new colour is even more beautiful, and I can’t wait to get back to racing with it. The goal for this season will be, as always, to constantly improve and be competitive in every race. We’ll aim to bring the MotoGP riders’ title, as well as the teams’ and manufacturers’ titles, back to Borgo Panigale.”
“Ducati is the most iconic motorcycle brand in the world, and if anything it’s the most innovative manufacturer,” Ciabatti continued. “In Moto GP, Ducati introduced a lot of new ideas starting from the aerodynamics, back in 2015 and so many innovations. So it’s a group which keeps working, trying to find new solutions with different approach. We are not conventional, we are not as big as some of the other manufacturers so we have to think differently.”
“The new fairing since we’ve tested it the last few times, I think all the feedback from all the riders has been very positive,” Miller confirmed. “That and the new exhaust. I’m definitely really excited to get the GP22 out on track in anger!”
