'Everything is coming easy' for Raul Fernandez at Phillip Island

Gold & Goose

Raul Fernandez is feeling 'super comfortable' on his Trackhouse Racing Aprilia RS-GP at the Australian Grand Prix.

The opening day of the Australian Grand Prix was a success for Raul Fernandez and his Trackhouse Racing crew as they gained automatic access to Q2 on Saturday.

Fernandez started the day in 11th place in Free Practice One, before showing his true speed in the afternoon Practice session when he leapt up the order to second place on the timesheets.

The Spaniard admitted that he has a very positive feeling from his Aprilia RS-GP, but it has taken a lot of hard work to get to this stage.

"I am very happy, again I feel super comfortable on the bike, and everything is coming easy," Fernandez told MotoGP.com after Practice on Friday.

"When you have this kind of feeling, you have to enjoy the moment. It is what I made during the Practice. It is true that we had a lot of work to do. Again, we had three different front tyres to try; we had a soft tyre that we did not use last year, because we did not have the compound.

"We had a lot of work to do, but I am happy, of course, the position is important, but the race pace is, and how we manage situations, because in some moments the track during Practice at Turn One and Turn Four was tricky with the winds.

"I am happy because we have made a good thing for tomorrow, and to be in Q2 is important, it is very important for the team and for me. But we cannot lose our focus, we want to be in this kind of position, but to be in this position, we have to work."

'We don't need to be nervous...'

Fernandez has been on a good run of form across the flyaway events in Japan and Indonesia, and he believes he made a step at the recent Misano Test before the flyaway rounds began.

"I think since the Misano Test we have made a step," he explained.

"Also, in Japan, I was in Q2 directly, and it was the third race in a row that I was in Q2. We are always fighting for the top six, top seven, and realistically, this is our target. If we get something more, I will be happy, but we have to think of this kind of position.

"Maybe at the next races we will have more difficult things, but I feel comfortable with this feeling. Tomorrow we will have an important day for us, we don't need to be nervous, we need to be relaxed like now."
