'It is impossible to dream of an occasion like this' - Alex Marquez reacts to securing second place in the Championship

Gold & Goose

Alex Marquez has wrapped up second place in the 2025 MotoGP Championship with his Sprint Race performance.

At the chequered flag of the Sprint Race at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Alex Marquez cemented his second place in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship.

The Spaniard finished the Sprint Race in second place, 2.259 seconds behind Francesco Bagnaia, but was overjoyed by this position due to its implications in the Championship standings.

"I am super happy, the emotions were there in Parc Ferme after the Sprint," Marquez told MotoGP.com after securing second in the MotoGP Championship.

"I mean, this is something that is not easy to achieve; it is something amazing that we did not even dream of. It is impossible to dream of an occasion like this, to be first and second on top of the World Championship. This is something super amazing.

"I don't think we are giving Marc [Marquez] and me the credit, but I am sure in ten years we will sit on the sofa and say we were there at the top of the world. This is super amazing, it will be super nice.

"To achieve this with Gresini is amazing, it is my family, they have always been there for these three years, working and working. We have completed many laps, and people have said some wrong things about us, but in the end, we are here. This is the most important thing.

"Now we have these three races in front of us where we can forget everything, and enjoy as much as we can."

'Every day in front of us will be a celebration...'

Marquez will now enter the Malaysian, Portuguese, and Valencian Grands Prix with less pressure on his shoulders as his Championship position has been finalised.

He insists that he will enjoy and celebrate throughout the remainder of the 2025 MotoGP season.

"It was a Sprint Race, but it was already so long, it was like a long race," he explained.

"The last four laps, which does not sound like a lot, but four laps around here is half of a Sprint Race. They were so long, and I was riding in a really bad way, just trying to make everything with the throttle, and it was spinning, and spinning.

"We need to be happy, but we have a good opportunity tomorrow to enjoy this and to celebrate our second place. Every day in front of us will be a celebration, because to achieve this for Gresini is a better position than Marc [Marquez] and Enea [Bastianini]."
