Jack Miller crashed out of fifth place in the Austrian Grand Prix and ended up finishing in 19th place.
After a strong start to the weekend in Qualifying and the Sprint Race Jack Miller crashed in the main Grand Prix.
Miller qualified in fifth place for the Austrian Grand Prix, the same place he finished in the Sprint Race. The Australian finished as the top KTM on Saturday, but after a fall on Sunday, he finished in 19th.
With no contract signed for 2025, the Austrian Grand Prix was looking like it could have been a real statement ride from Miller. But it was not to be as he crashed on lap 11 into the Turn Two chicane.
“Not the way we wanted the day to go," Miller said after the Austrian Grand Prix. "I got a better start and we went with a softer map today. I was nursing the bike at the beginning and sacrificing a little bit but I was comfortable."
“I had the bike pretty mellow, especially off Turns three and five. Just trying to save the right-hand side of the rear tyre. So I was yo-yoing a little bit, but trying to stay in the fight and play the long game. But I didn't get there in the end.
“I came in (to the chicane) a little bit hot, the front started bouncing and that was that. But I was able to pick the bike up, remount and get going."
After his crash, Miller did manage to finish the race. However, he had damaged his KTM RC16.
“The bike was behaving pretty well considering she had a bent handlebar, some broken wings and whatnot,” Miller explained. “But the tyre stayed in really well and we were one of the fastest bikes on track for the last six laps.
“So I’m left with that ‘what could have been’, but nonetheless it was nice to be competitive again this weekend. It's been a big boost in the confidence.”
