Mini-bikes in the wet is next step for Lorenzo’s confidence

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo is so desperate to get back some feeling in the rain that he will go back to his roots and ride mini-bikes on a wet surface.

The Movistar Yamaha man has performed so badly this year in wet and mixed conditions he has only taken seven points from the last three races and lays the blame firmly at his own door.

“In the end it’s the rider who needs to change. It’s not the bike, maybe it’s the setting, but 90 per cent it’s me who can improve in this situation,” he said.

“I have to do something. I do not know what, but I have to do something. With the Bridgestone even in the wet I could fight for the win, for the podium or the top five but with this bike and these tyres I struggle much more. I was four seconds slower than the fastest times in the practices.

“I do not know what it will be, but it’s better than doing nothing and training in the gym just waiting for the problem to be solved by itself. At this point I think I have to retrain myself in the wet. I don’t know yet if wetting the track down and training with small bikes might work. I don’t know if this will help, but it’s the only solution I see now to get the feeling back.”
