MotoGP's technical bosses have tightening the electronics noose for the 2019 season with a move to unify inertial measurement units.
Currently, manufacturers are able to use their own IMUs attached to the spec-Marelli electronics but the ability for electronics engineers to make gains away from the prying eyes of officials is clearly too much to bear for MotoGP, so they're shutting it down.
A new missive from the FIM, at the behest of Dorna, states that the IMU will no longer be exempt from the spec-ECU rules, there will be a clarification of permitted inputs and outputs, a clarification of the CAN communication protcols and an updates layout for the permitted CAN-ECU connections.
