Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo debuted a new pair of aerodynamic wings on the front of his YZR-M1 in MotoGP second free practice at Misano today but says there is more work to be done to see if it gives much of ad advantage.
Yamaha used wings back in 1999 on the YZR500 but ditched the idea until Ducati brought it back this season. Lorenzo played his cards close to his chest about whether there was much benefit to running them, but said they would do more work.
“The idea is 15 years old as Yamaha used in 1999 with Checa and Biaggi but they didn’t keep using it and after some years Ducati started to use it and we made more or less the same to see what happened,” said Lorenzo, speaking at Misano.
“We try in Aragon and I wanted to try as soon as possible here to see if it can give us some benefits. We are not sure yet, we have to look at the data. It is not a big difference but if it can give you a small advantage then good.”
