MotoGP Misano: Rossi and Lorenzo in post-race handbags

Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo appeared to reignite their bitter feud in today’s Misano MotoGP press conference after the Spaniard accused The Doctor of being too aggressive.

Rossi made a move on his Movistar Yamaha team-mate in the second lap of the race to take the lead, causing Lorenzo to sit up as he lost the position.

While Lorenzo said nothing about the move when he spoke to TV crews after the race, the pair were asked about it in today’s press conference and it sparked a bit of a tiff as the pair disagreed on what had happened.

“An overtake at Misano is always a bit difficult but I wanted to try from the beginning because I want to try to modify something because at Mugello I was behind Lorenzo and it bring me unlucky because of a broken engine, so this time I want to try to stay in front,” said a matter-of-fact Rossi

Lorenzo raised his eyebrows and said: “If you ask this question it’s because maybe the move is aggressive, no? If not, you don’t ask this question.

“You can have different opinion, my opinion was that the overtaking was maybe too aggressive, he didn’t need to make this overtaking. All the other riders overtake more clean and I have to just…”

Rossi responded by shaking his head and smiling, and Lorenzo said “it’s true.” To which Rossi said: “it’s not true”. The pair then engaged in a debate of ‘it is, it isn’t” before Rossi invited his team-mate to review it on TV, which clearly irked the reigning champion further.

“Well if I don’t pull up straight the bike we crash, I crash. Maybe you don’t crash but I crash for sure.”

Rossi hit back: “This is not true, I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what you have to say to Marquez at Silverstone, he overtake 10 times like this. It’s not true.”

The spat continued, as Lorenzo shrugged “it’s my opinion, it’s my opinion” to which Rossi threw in “And also you overtake always aggressive, also to me.”

Lorenzo queried: “when, when?” and Rossi, caught on the hop, responded “Er, I don’t remember but if you check the tape you will see.”

Lorenzo was by now getting even more annoyed, no doubt made worse by the laughter coming from the bemused press pack, saying: “Don’t laugh, it’s my opinion, it’s my opinion. Race Direction will have another opinion. For me if I don’t pull up straight the bike I crash.”

Rossi took another chance to tell everyone he didn’t agree as Lorenzo continued “Anyway, for me he didn’t need to risk overtaking, he was better today, he’d have passed me sooner or later, but he didn’t need to be so aggressive on me, I think. But anyway, he will have another opinion of course”.
