Petronas SRT’s Jake Dixon is ready to get the 2021 Moto2 season underway after a more successful than initially expected pre-season test in Qatar.
Making his racing return after a wrist injury at Valencia ended his 2020 challenge prematurely, resulting in surgery and a winter of rehabilitation, Dixon is excited to get back to the day job this weekend.
“It was great to be back with the team and riding the bike at the Qatar test, now I just can’t wait to get riding again this weekend” the Brit said during the mid-week lull.
Despite using the official three-day test primarily to assess his wrist’s strength and ability, while getting back up to speed on his Kalex machine, the 25-year-old recorded his best lap around the Qatari circuit - placing him fifth overall in the combined standings.
Feeling ready to make his competitive return, Dixon is not, however, putting the pressure of expectations on his shoulders, choosing instead to take the opening 20-lap race as it comes.
“Although we had a good test I don’t want to give myself too many expectations,” he continued. “We need to see what my wrist is like over race distance. I don’t want to give myself a target for the race, I just want to go with the flow, enjoy it and see what happens.
“I’m just hungry to keep going now I’ve been back on the bike!”
