MotoGP Sepang: Lorenzo calls for Rossi disqualification

Valentino Rossi Movistar Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo believes The Doctor should have been disqualified from today’s Sepang MotoGP after his clash with Marc Marquez.

Rossi will start from the back of the grid at the Valencia finale, effectively ending his chances of a tenth title, but Lorenzo believes it is not enough and the fact that he is Valentino Rossi meant his penalty was more lenient.

“I believe he should get the same points as Marc because without this incident, Marc would not have crash and he would have finished in third position or fourth.

“If he didn’t finish the race and get zero points, Valentino should get the same. With much less aggressive actions, other riders get more penalisation.

“His name is very important for the championship and maybe because of that he don’t get a championship penalisation points. Yes, he starts last but is not fair. We have to respect the decision but I don’t share it.”

In 2005, Lorenzo was given a one-race ban for an incident at Catalunya when he collided with the rear of Alex De Angelis in the 250GP even though he also fell and scored no points.
