Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa has topped the opening MotoGP free practice timesheets at Sepang this morning, with his session one lap reigning supreme after the afternoon period was hit by rain.
The tiny Spaniard was substantially inside the lap record with a 2'01.621 but he was chased hard by still-injured team-mate Casey Stoner who was a little over a tenth in arrears while championship leader Jorge Lorenzo bagged third with a 2'01.934.
Monster Yamaha's Andrea Dovizioso was in fourth place, just ahead of team-mate Cal Crutchlow while Ben Spies, on the second works Yamaha, was fifth and seven-tenths slower than Pedrosa.
Rookie Stefan Bradl finished in seventh place on the LCR Honda with Nicky Hayden, Alvaro Bautista and Hector Barbera rounding out the top ten. Valentino Rossi was 11th and 1.6s off the pace.
Randy De Puniet was top CRT man with teamster Aleix Espargaro second and Colin Edwards third. James Ellison was 17th, just ahead of Roby Rolfo.
In the second session, which didn't dry out enough for slicks until only ten minutes was left on the clock, was headed by the Blusens bike of Ivan Silva with Michele Pirro and De Puniet in third.
Alvaro Bautista and Valentino Rossi topped the prototype riders when the track was fully wet with only Nicky Hayden and Stefan Bradl bothering to join them on track.
