MotoGP Valencia: Lorenzo ‘crying into his helmet’ as he takes third title

New MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has admitted he couldn’t see his pitboard as he crossed the line to start his final lap of today’s Valencia MotoGP round as he was crying.

The Mallorcan, who fended off a not particularly tough challenge from Marc Marquez in the final laps, took a lights-to-flag win to pic up his third MotoGP title.

“I couldn’t see my pit-board as I crossed the line on the last lap, I was so emotional, crying so much, it was so difficult. We have had some bad luck earlier in the season, been behind in the championship, but now he have it,” said Lorenzo in parc ferme.

“It was hard, the rear tyre was destroying so I was looking to see how many laps were to go to the finish, trying as hard as possible, maintaining my concentration to finish the race. Now I am very proud to take this World title for Spain.”
