MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo was feeling far from dominant at Valencia on Friday after FP2 crash.
The Monster Energy rider admits that he was completely ‘lost’ with his Yamaha M1 for the first time this season, having suffered a crash at turn two as the afternoon practice began. Although he later acknowledged the similarities between this weekend and his challenging visits to the Ricardo Tormo Circuit last season.
“I was lost. Totally lost,” Quartararo said simply on Friday afternoon.
“I had a crash and I don’t know why. This is the worst thing you can have - you crash but you have no idea why. You do everything okay and the front just goes so aggressive. It closed so aggressive and you don’t understand why.
“Today the bike was super aggressive. I couldn’t ride like all the year, so we need to find something because like that, is really difficult to make lap-times and be consistent and even we are really slow. So we need to find a solution.
“To be honest, it was really similar [to last year]” he continued. “You don’t know what is going on. You don’t know where you are. You don’t know the front feeling. The bike is turning pretty well but it’s really aggressive and no feeling from the front, so we are a bit lost. I’m a bit lost today but the team is looking. Was something strange also at turn one, I was really careful and it was losing a lot in that corner but many other corners where the bike was feeling super strange.
“This morning we didn’t expect the rain so we couldn’t make our bike with our setup - because it’s pretty long to do. My feeling was not so bad this morning, but this afternoon the feeling was terrible. I had just no feeling and this is the thing that I can’t understand.
“I’m just riding as normal. I’ve made 17 races from FP1 in Qatar since the race of Portimao, the feeling was the same and we arrive here and is totally lost. So it’s something really strange and I’m really looking forward to have the meeting with the team because its something that I can’t understand.”
