MotoGP Valencia: Redding concedes GP17 race to Petrucci

Britain’s Scott Redding has conceded the race for a Desmosedici GP17 to team-mate Danilo Petrucci as the points gap is too much to bridge with only one race left.

At the Brno round, Redding, Petrucci and Octo Pramac team boss Francesco Guidotti talked about ways to apportion the single 2017 bike headed for the team and it was agreed that whoever had the most points at season end would ride it.

“I really could have done without the result in Malaysia. I pulled a few points back, and I felt I was in contention, but after there I feel like the points difference is too big,” Redding said at the track today.

“It’s not impossible, but the odds are against me. I need to finish in a good position, problem is Danilo will not be too far behind to make the gap and the difference. I would say I’ve accepted it. If I don’t get it, I’m already ready for 2017.”

Redding would need a very strong result with Petrucci not finishing in order to make up the gap. The Italian has scored 41 points since the Czech Republic against Redding’s 19. The riders will drop two of their lowest scores but it is still a mountain for the Gloucestershire rider to climb.
