Pedro Acosta has had success at the Portuguese Grand Prix in the past, but is not setting any expectations for this weekend.
The Portuguese Grand Prix has been a happy hunting ground for Pedro Acosta throughout his career in the Grand Prix paddock.
However, the Spaniard does not want to 'create overly high expectations' ahead of this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao.
During his time in the Grand Prix paddock, Acosta has won three Grands Prix at Portimao, two during his Moto3 title campaign in 2021, and then one during his Moto2 title campaign in 2023.
He has also featured on a MotoGP podium at the Portuguese circuit, as he finished in third place in only his second premier class Grand Prix.
But this season, Acosta and KTM have been struggling with tyre wear, which is a factor that Acosta believes will impact him this weekend.
"Normally, yes, but first I need to get on my bike on Friday morning and see how I feel," Acosta said ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix.
"After that, we need to work on our issues. But I don't want to create overly high expectations – because of our general problem with tyre wear."
During the 2025 season, Acosta has been able to outqualify his teammate, Brad Binder, at all 20 Grands Prix so far. When asked about this, he downplayed how important the statistic is and believes he still needs to improve his Qualifying performances.
"A 20-0 record against your teammate doesn't mean you've had good qualifying sessions, those are two different things," he explained.
"But it's true that I've been starting more from the second row since the summer break. I still have room for improvement, because that's not my greatest strength.
"But if I want to fight for the world championship one day, I need that extra edge. I'm working on improving, on the bike setup and on myself. I need to take a step forward in qualifying."
