Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi has had his first taste of the new, fully seamless gearbox at the second Sepang MotoGP test today and says he is pleased although it hasn’t made a massive difference so far.
Previously, Rossi and team-mate Lorenzo have only had seamless shift going up the box, not down, and Rossi thinks the new system has already helped on braking and corner entry. He set the fastest lap of the day.
“Everybody in the team is cool about the new gearbox and, the first impression is quite positive. I am happy. Is not a huge difference but is a small help and especially is in a critical point to where we have to improve,” said Rossi, speaking at Sepang.
“The first impression is that in braking and in the entry is a bit better and I think we have to work for understand the maximum potential but the test was good, and I am happy to finish in first position.”
Rossi and Lorenzo will need the next few days to get used to the new system and to build their setups around it, so expect more positive comments at test end.
