Smith on the podium as eSkootr gears up for action

Bradley Smith is taking on a second electric challenge in 2022 as the eSkootr Championship prepares to launch.

Another electric series is coming to the world of two wheels but this one is a little more ‘out there’ than the rest.

Tagged as ‘the next generation’ of racing, eSkootr or eSC kicks off in 2022 as a greener, but still action-packed alternative to traditional motorsport. While the majority won’t be dissuaded away from beloved Sundays at the track or in front of the tv watching MotoGP or British Superbikes, the scooters do promise fun and entertainment.

The Williams Advanced Engineering designed, carbon-fibre S1-X scooter is capable of over 100km/h top speeds and will be raced on dedicated and technical short tracks where cornering angles of 50 degrees can be utilised. Much like the Formula E and Extreme E series already in operation, the eSkootrs even have a boost button for added acceleration when the competition draws close.

Set to commence in late Spring 2022, the eSkootr programme has already trialled a full prototype weekend at Circuit Paul Ricard in November, showcasing practice, qualifying and race action. Ex-MotoGP rider Bradley Smith - onboard as both competitor and talent scout for the burgeoning operation - claimed one victory and was narrowly beaten on the line in the second race by Italian CIV and EWC rider Luca Vitali, with French Freestyler and model Aymand Vernay and American model and motorcycle enthusiast Jordan Rand completing the celebrations.

Open to an eclectic mix of professional athletes across racing and balance sports, including skateboarding, skiing and surfing, Smith was joined on track by fellow ex-MotoGP rider Claudio Corti, British pro scooter FISE and SD12 Champion Jamie Hull, and bronze medal Olympian Billy Morgan.

While the full calendar still tbc, the series is set for further preparation in the new year before the action is expected to kick off around May.
