'The number one is just a number.. the priority is to win the championship' - Dall'igna discusses Aprilia having the #1 for 2025

Gold & Goose

Gigi Dall'Igna made his feelings known about Jorge Martin taking the #1 to Aprilia.

Ducati's general manager, Gigi Dall'Igna, is unfazed by Jorge Martin taking the #1 to Aprilia in 2025. Instead, the Italian wants Ducati to keep the title and not 'just a number'.

The 2024 MotoGP World Championship was won by the Prima Pramac Racing satellite Ducati team. However, their rider Jorge Martin had already decided to sign for Aprilia Racing for the 2025 season after being denied a factory Ducati ride.

At the Aprilia Racing team launch the Spaniard showcased his version of the #1 on the front of a RS-GP for the first time.

At Ducati’s factory team launch event, Dall’Igna commented on the #1 plate by saying: “It’s not a problem to have the number one on the bike or not. The problem is to win the championship and we did this last year.

“This is the most important thing. So, the number one in this case is just a number and for sure I would like to have this on our bike. But the priority is to win the championship.”

With Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez on their bikes in 2025 the Ducati Lenovo Team have 'The Dream Team' with a combined eight MotoGP World Championships between their riders.

The riders are title contenders and the 2024 Ducati was a dominant force so the Italians are in no rush to overly develop the Desmosedici.

“The target is easy, for sure the path that we need to follow achieve this result is not easy,” Dall'Igna stated.

“But anyway, we have a clear idea about the situation. A lot of things to test. I think we have to keep in mind that last year’s bike was, honestly speaking, quite good.

“So, we don’t have any rush to put on the new bike a lot of things. So, we have a lot of things in the pocket and we have to select what is the base for the start of the season.”
