Yamaha MotoGP project leader Kouji Tsuya believes the new, unified inertial management unit will not help either Valentino Rossi or Maverick Vinales become more competitive next season.
MotoGP technical director Danny Aldridge is bringing in the spec unit to complement the unified ECU supplied by Magneti Marelli as there is a belief that teams are able to make more adjustments than they should be using their own IMU systems and circumventing the spec-ECU’s restrictions.
“The situation will be equal to everybody. Our current IMU, we believe, is better than the unified IMU for next year. We can keep the current performance we don’t think it will help us,” said Tsuya-san, speaking at Brno.
