'We improved in some areas... but still need to work on several things' - Puig discusses Honda's progress for 2025

Gold & Goose

Honda HRC Castrol team boss, Alberto Puig, discussed Honda's offseason work ahead of the Buriram Test.

The 2024 MotoGP season saw Honda plummet to the bottom of the Constructors Standings. However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for the Japanese manufacturer as Honda HRC Castrol boss, Alberto Puig, is confident that progress is being made.

After the Sepang Test last week Joan Mir and Luca Marini believed that Honda had made a step over the winter. The Spaniard and the Italian both had better feelings from the 2025 RC213V when comparing it to the 2024 version.

Puig agreed with his riders when speaking to MotoGP.com ahead of the Buriram Test.

“The base is better than last year,” Puig said.

“We improved in some areas that were difficult for us in the past, but still we need to work on several things that are really important and that riders are requesting, and we know the things.

“It will not be easy, the beginning of the season, this is for sure. But in Japan they did a big effort in bringing everything they did, and also we recruited a lot of people that are helping us.”

Honda has not only improved on the track but they have bolstered their roster off the track. The Japanese manufacturer has recruited Romano Albesiano from Aprilia as their new Technical Director.

“Regarding [Romano] Albesiano, we are happy that he joined,” he explained.

“Of course, it’s a beginning for him, and the guy needs time to get used to the system in Honda which is completely different, probably, from the Italian way of working.

“Finally, Honda is not an individual, it’s a team – this is where we want to find the strength. “The motivation and the challenge, the target is there – his only one is to bring back Honda to the top positions.”
