MXGP France: Covington dents KTM MX2 domination

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team-mates Thomas Covington and Thomas Kjer Olsen both finished on the MX2 podium for the first time this season at the MXGP of France at St Jean d’Angely on Sunday.

Heavy overnight rain made the already tough track even more challenging but the pair were in impressive form with the American leading home the Dane in a one-two for the team in the opener.

In race two Covington was third, one place ahead of Olsen, to miss out on the overall on a tie-break with Jorge Prado.

“Overall it was a really good weekend for me,” said Covington, who will return to the US to race at the end of the year. “I have been struggling the first half of the season so it is good to get some consistent races in a weekend. I felt really strong, especially at the end – I really found my rhythm.”

After a disaster at last weekend’s MXGP of GB where he failed to score points after technical problems, Olsen was happy to extend his championship advantage over fourth-placed Ben Watson to 23 points.

“It was a really good weekend for the team,” he said, “I am happy for the team and for myself. I am really happy that I was able to pull off a two-four this weekend – I was able to be aggressive in the first few laps and I’m happy to be on the podium.”
