When we were a lad, the 125 supersports market was booming. Sadly, in recent years, it’s fallen away a little – but with the success of Honda’s CBR125 and Yamaha’s YZF-R125, they could be on a comeback.
Which makes Suzuki’s new 2017 GSX-R125 all the more pleasing. We love a Gixxer here at BSN, and anything which gets the kids into supersports bikes early doors is fine by us. This looks like a very decent attempt from Hamamatsu – the motor is a high-spec liquid-cooled design, with DOHC, four-valve head, and a smart engine management system.
Suzuki reckons it’s got ‘class-leading’ power to weight, torque to weight and acceleration – so it sounds like a lively little bugger. You get Suzuki’s easy-start one-touch ignition setup, and it even has a keyless starter – a first in the small capacity class we reckon. LED lights, ABS, and a sweet LCD dash rounds off the impressive spec list.
All we want now is ten of these, our daftest mates, and Brands Indy for the afternoon. What could possibly go wrong?
