The ACU hosted both the youth and adult ACU Awards at the Park Inn Hotel in Northampton on Saturday 31st January and it was declared a hugely enjoyable and successful event by all those who attended.
The www.bikesportnews.com-backed awards ceremony commenced at lunchtime with the youth awards across all disciplines. Almost 300 guests attended this ceremony which saw young boys and girls pick up awards for their racing efforts in 2008. With such a diverse range of young Champions the future of motorcycle sport in the UK certainly looks healthy.
A further 430 guests arrived for the adult ceremony in the evening where once again all biking disciplines were honoured. Well known names amongst the guests were John Reynolds triple British Superbike Champion, Chris Harris former Speedway Champion and Neil Tuxworth Head of Honda Racing.
Dave Luscombe, Business Development Manager said: “It is great to come to this event and see the young talent that is coming through in all disciplines. A lot of focus tends to be on road racing due to its high profile however it is the off-road sports that are really expanding now and that is where our future champions will come from. You’ve got to remember double World Superbike Champion James Toseland started his race career in motocross.”
Jim Parker, ACU Chairman said: “It has been a tremendous success. We had 430 guests for the adult ACU awards and 280 guests for the youth ACU awards. I think it is marvellous that we can bring all the Championship winners together, it is also good to let different organisers from various disciplines meet.”
