A classic line-up featuring some of the most evocative makes and models created will make for an exciting part of North Yorkshire’s eagerly-anticipated Croft Nostalgia event early next month (Sat 3/Sun 4 August).
The North East Motorcycle Racing Club has pulled together a truly fine collection of bikes ranging from 1949-72 to provide both on-track demonstrations and static displays for crowds visiting the 1940s-70s themed festival at Croft Circuit, near Darlington.
Makes so far confirmed include: Aermacchi, AJS, Benelli, Cotton, Gilera, Honda, Manx Norton, NSU, Seeley, Suzuki, Trident, Velocity, Velocette and Yamaha.
The NEMCRC’s Matty Barkess commented: “It’s a line-up that is sure to stir some great memories for enthusiasts from across the region and beyond. Some of the bikes coming will forever be held as all-time greats in terms of results on the road or the track or how they helped turn around certain manufacturers’ fortunes.
“Above all, with Croft Nostalgia now really getting into its stride and with the large number of people visibly attending the event, we felt it was vital we had a presence. This is just a start and we’re already planning to expand our display of bikes considerably at Nostalgia in the future.”
The Nostalgia event – free for accompanied children aged 15 and under – features yesteryear fun for all generations of families with a strong emphasis on anything automotive, fashion, music or military-related from the 1940s to the early 1970s.
Visitors are also encouraged to dress in period style and immerse themselves in a vast WWII encampment while adding to a post-war atmosphere. Adding to the spectacle will be ground and air displays from tanks and planes from the era.
Meanwhile the motorbikes will add to a line-up of more than 600 classic and vintage vehicles, among them some incredibly rare finds from the likes of Rolls Royce, Delahaye, Aston Martin and Lagonda as well as all manner of favourite family and motoring enthusiasts’ models up to 1972.
On the track TV chef James Martin will be on the grid in an iconic Mini Cooper S for one of 16 races for historic racing cars.
A return shuttle service aboard classic buses from nearby Darlington town centre will also be made available free of charge for the public.
Tickets for Croft Nostalgia 2013 (Sat 3/Sun 4 Aug) are priced £13 Saturday, £18 Sunday or £23 for the weekend. See www.croftcircuit.co.uk or call the Croft Circuit office on 01325 721815 for more details.
