Cook storms to three-win Aprilia Superteen debut

Aprilia Superteen rookie Max Cook announced his arrival in style when he set pole and took three wins out of four races in the opening Thundersport race weekend.

The pint-sized 12-year-old from Wiltshire proved he had no trouble stepping up to the big bikes as he made his debut at Brands Hatch.

Fresh from Metrakit racing and donning an orange novice bib, the youngster hit the track running, qualifying on pole ahead of the first of four races.

Starting the first two races from pole, he grabbed two wins after epic battles with Cameron Horsman. For the third race he lined up third on the grid, but wasn’t about to let this cause a problem, as he seared up to the front and took the win by more than three seconds from Horsman.

Hoping to make it a full house in the final race, he got another clean start and looked to be on course for another win. But he pushed it a little too hard in another battle with Horsman and crashed out with a lap to go.

But speaking to Bikesport News after the event, the KJD Racing Team rider said he was still thrilled with the weekend, especially after setting his fastest lap just moments before he crashed.

“I can’t quite believe how well the weekend has gone, I certainly wasn’t expecting anything like this,” he said. “I came in with no expectations at all, I just wanted to do my best, learn the track and see if I could get a few good results.

“It was my first race weekend on the bigger bike and I’m quite small so again we weren’t sure how I’d adapt straight away. It was a bit harder at first but once I understood it, I found it suited me much more.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more in my first race. Three wins was amazing, and I didn’t mind losing out on the fourth one because I’d had such a good race and I had just set my fastest lap. I’m so happy with the results, it was perfect.”
