Daley impresses in KTM European Cup debut

Thundersport regular Josh Daley shocked the World Superbike paddock on Saturday when he stormed to pole position in the KTM  European Junior Cup in tricky conditions at Silverstone.

Daley, who won the Motovudu/ bikesportnews.com wildcard competition, pipped series regular and championship leader Lukas Wimmer for top spot and looked set for a great race come Sunday.

It wasn’t to be, however, as Daley slipped off on the second lap of a race held in very greasy conditions but he has showcased his talents to the WSBK paddock and Motovudu boss Simon Crafar was more than a little impressed with the youngster.

“Josh didn’t get a great start as he hadn’t started one of the bike before but made up five places on the first lap. Two riders went down in front of him on the second lap and then he got caught by a highside he could do nothing about. The pole on Saturday and then a crash are the highs and lows of racing,” said dad Andy.

“He was over the moon about the whole experience and said he has learned so much about different setups, dealing with the media, so all in all is has been great for him and we would like to thank everyone involved who gave us the opportunity to do it.”

The race was won by Jamie Patterson, who showed his form at Monza in the rain earlier in season was no fluke, with a fantastically timed move on another wildcard rider Connor Parkhill in the

final chicane.
