GSX-R TROPHY SNETTERTON: CONNOLLY DOES IT AGAIN

Early Championship leader, Ross Connolly, took a flag to flag victory at Snetterton during round two of the R&G Racing Suzuki GSX-R Trophy with a race winning time of 12mins 41:73secs, ahead of the hard charging Mark Cheetham, who finished only 0:45 seconds behind in a time of 12min 42:18.

Championship regulars Ross Richards and Chris Hawkes took third and fourth place respectively.

This weekend the Championship will be decided over two races and points awarded over aggregated positions and times.

The second race of the day saw Ross Richards lead from the start with Chris Hawkes in a close second place. By the start of lap two, Hawkes had been relegated to third place, as the slow starting Pole man Mark Cheetham got into his stride.

By lap three Hawkes had been relegated to fourth and Richards to third with Cheetham and Connolly resuming their unfinished business from race one.

Richards had a grandstand seat as the two new Trophy boys banged fairings and elbows, trying to out-brake each other into Snetterton’s notorious chicanes.

By lap six back markers from the Formula 600 race were starting to make an influence, at one stage blocking Cheetham into the braking zone as the trio of GSX-R’s dived into the Russell’s chicane and causing him to be relegated from first to third; Connolly and Richards seizing their opportunity.

Cheetham was not to be delighted and forced on, eventually taking Richards and Connolly on the final lap to win the race by 0:31 seconds in a time of 12mins 40:41secs.

However, with both Connolly and Cheetham with a first and second a piece, aggregate times were needed to decided the round winner.  The overall win went to Ross Connolly with a time of 25mins 22:45secs over Mark Cheetham with 25mins 22:59secs.

Cheetham was on a role grabbing the pole position award which is a £50 voucher for Force Field Body Armour redeemable at Stamford Superbikes, with a time of 1min 14:40secs. He also managed the fastest lap with a time of 1min 13:51secs.

To novice of the day was Paul Rogers who picked up the Express Insurance Top Gun Award. And the man nominated by the commentators as the most entertaining was also Cheetham and he received the Relentless Rider of the Day hoodie and supply of Relentless.
