Four –up Prime in the clear
Team Prime Factors Performance House Racing extended their lead in the ACU/Sorrymate.com National 1000 title chase, stretching their run of successes to four-in-a-row with victory in this fifth round six-hour event which carried double points.
Boosted by the addition of BSB star Gary Mason, regular team riders Michael Brown and Stefan Cappella completed 200 laps, one more than Pitstop Racing (Martin Brand and Peter and Marc Dilks), runner’s-up in last season’s National 600 championship, who qualified in pole position. Third home was Go Racing Developments 1000, made up of Greg Allsop and Andy Carpenter joined for this longer-than-usual race by James McBride, better known nowadays for racing on the roads, completing 198 laps.
Fourth overall was T. Watson Bikes (Rick Dickinson, Forest Dunn and Tom Stephens), who completed 195 laps, extending their lead in the Sorrymate Clubman 1000 Endurance class to 17 over Seven Racing (Marc Mellon/Tim Forman/ Darren Wnukowski). Linxcel Trick Moto Racing, joined for the day by Johnny Towers, was fifth home, notching up 194, crossing the line less than two seconds ahead of the first National 600 team, Team Sorrymate.com (Richard Charlton, Colin Norris and Warren Verwey). Van Hire Racing, with Adrian Hartog and Les Liney joined for the event by Freddy Pett, led the race for the first two and half hours, but gradually slipped back to end eighth overall, second in the National 600 class.
Team Edge was without the injured Gary Johnson, so Nick Edge drafted in William and Richard White. Twelfth overall, with double points they now lead the National 600 from Sorrymate, com by 11 points. Sorrymate.com, who drafted in Richard Charlton in to join regulars Norris and Verwey, won the National 600 class by two laps, despite an early crash. Team Prime Factors Performance House Racing now leads Pitstop Racing in the series by 29 points, with Linxcel Trick Moto Racing slip from second to third, nine down on Pitstop. Team Army 2 (Andrew Day/Wayne Morgan/Richard Spencer-Fleet) maintained their unbeaten run and now top the Clubman 600 class by a 33 points margin from Still Game Racing (James Butterworth/David Muir).
Lodge doubles but Ryan leads
Ryan Gibson (Suzuki), the 19-year-old from Watford, is now 86 points clear of his rivals in the Linxcel Powerbike 1000 series. Jonathan Lodge took two victories and climbed to fourth in the standings. Lee Wilson and Steve Neate had a win each. Michael Hogarth stays tops of the Linxcel Pre-National 1000 series, despite missing the meeting, but his lead over Christian Holt is down from 42 points to 14.
Wayne humbles ‘em
Wayne Humble (Yamaha) cut the gap on Monex Europe Power Sport 600 series leader Richard Carlton (Yamaha) from 62 points to 44 by notching up three wins and a second place.
Charlton, the 35-year-old from Tow Law, County Durham topped Saturday’s qualifying and then won race one, before crashing in his very first Endurance race later in the day.
Humble, the 25-year-old from Alston, Cumbria, who beat Charlton to win last year’s Michelin Cup 600, was unbeaten from then on. Jamie Boyce remains the leader in the Monex Europe Pre-National 600 class. He tops the points’ table on 315, but his brother, Tom Boyce is up to second, ten points down, with Daniel Diamond pushed down to third on 283.
Two apiece for Graham and Jamal
Graham Hornby (Honda 1000) shared the spoils with Jamal Mahmood (Kawasaki 1000) in the Michelin Power Cup Pro 1000 class. He won two of the four races, with Mahmood taking victory in the other two. Hornby’s lead in the championship over Mahmood remains at 120 points.
Craig Kennelly (Yamaha 1000) saw his lead over Terry Fuller (BMW 1000) in the 1000 Rookies cut from 100 points to 69 after a bad second day. Stuart Dawson (Yamaha) increased his lead in the Michelin Power Cup Pro 600 series over his closest rival, Marcus Gearing (Yamaha) from 95 points to 155. Gavin Bartlett (Suzuki) is now 25 points ahead of Chris Parrish (Yamaha) in the 600 Rookies.
Gerrard’s high and lows
James Gerrard, the 24-year-old from Bolton, qualified on pole for the Ducati Desmo Due races, almost two seconds quicker than anyone else, but found conditions so tricky that he pulled out of the first race, after just two laps. Michael Burke went on to win the Class A in a four lap race. Jim Brian was first of the Class B machines. Conditions were much better for race two and Gerrard narrowly won, beating another race one retirement, Andy Pike by two fifths of a second. Andy Blomfield was first Class B home. Gerrard elected not to race in the third outing and Tim Sayers came out top of the Class A, With Brian taking his second Class B victory of the weekend,Matt Lawson now tops Class A on 274 points, 114 ahead of Phil Daravulla and 117 more than Kevin Ellis. Those two victories and a second place lifted Brian to the top of Class B on 288, 19 ahead of Blomfield, with Scott Wilson third on 249.
Dave is BSN Man of the Meeting
Dave Wood, Jr took the award for his efforts over the weekend. His Yamaha R6 lost all power in the Friday test day, so he hurried home to Aylesbury to sort out the problem. He was back up to Donington in time for Saturday morning’s Monex Europe Motogrande 600 qualifying. He was leading race one then high-sided on the last lap. Running up in the top three in race two he then ran out of fuel. Undeterred Wood finished fifth and fourth in Sunday’s two races.
