Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes is convinced he can break the Mallory Park outright lap record at the Buildbase Race of the Year later on this month using a Supersport bike.
Lowes, who is currently en route to the Aragon World Supersport round, says he can not only break the 600cc record of 52.758 held by Jay Vincent but also the absolute record owned by Tom Sykes at 51.271. Both laps use the traditional Mallory Park track layout that includes Gerards without the BSB chicane.
"In testing last year I managed to get into the 51s on my BSS bike,” explains Lowes. “In a dry race on the WSS Parkalgar Honda I think we can go near or under the current lap record. I will do my best to win the race and set the lap record for the Supersport class - and if I can, the outright lap record while I am at it.
“My Parkalgar Honda is perfectly suited to Mallory Park. I’ll need to get a good start and then pull away from the Superbikes before we get to the straights, otherwise they will slow me in the corners and use their power to get away on the straights. It’s going to be an interesting race.”
Tickets for The Buildbase Race of the Year cost £23 in advance (£26 on the gate) for both days or £11 in advance (£13 on the day) for Saturday practice and qualifying and £13 in advance (£15 on the day) for race day Sunday 26th June.
