bikesportnews.com would like to offer our condolences to all of the Lewis family of SL Racing after the sudden, tragic loss of Simon Lewis, husband to Fiona and father to teenagers Jay and Corey.
Simon who was a dedicated, hard working, genuine family man created SL Racing to give his much loved sons the opportunity to live their dream of motorbike racing. As an individual I think it is fair to say he was also a friend to most and following my involvement with both Simon and Fiona, a courteous, welcoming man.
Simon, 41 years old and healthy suddenly fell ill bringing great sadness to those that knew him and to his family that create such a warm, united atmosphere within the racing paddock.
Following his funeral on the 19th, Fiona, Jay and Corey made a last minute decision to appear at Donington this weekend with Corey continuing to take part in the Relentless 125cc Championship for his father.
This shows immense strength for this family, something to be proud of. Lewis did finish the race after having an off, and did so without a fairing, but in no way should he be disappointed after improving all weekend to then battle with the leading four in treacherous conditions, demonstrating his talent that his Dad truly believed in.
Jay did not race this weekend, but he is also known for his natural racing skill and like his brother their parents are no doubt their biggest fans. Whatever the future holds for SL Racing, our thoughts go out to all of his friends and family through this difficult time.
You will be missed Simon.
