Luxton extends Aprilia RRV series lead

JDF Racing’s Ben Luxton further extended his championship lead in round six of the Thundersport Aprilia RRV 450 Challenge last weekend

Going into the round with a 101 points lead over Wigan rider Will Hodgson Luxton knew the pace would be hot as the series headed to the last third of the meetings. Usually qualifying on the front row Luxton found himself in fifth place after qualifying. Will Hodgson taking a well earned pole position.

"I was looking forward to this meeting as this track and Donington are my favourite circuits, it has everything fast and slow corners, more left handers than most track as it is run anti-clockwise, and riding down the start finish straight on the International layout is always interesting, you can hear the engine noise bouncing off the grandstand. It was also my first pole and win in the series last year, so a bit special really," he said.

Finding himself down in fifth place in the first race of the weekend it was going to be a big ask to get on the top step. Ever improving youngster George Stanley was looking hungry for his first win which he achieved leading home Luxton by 2.3 seconds a big margin by the standards of the series where wins are usually achieved by half bike’s length or less.

The second race of the day saw Ben get a reasonable start but he got boxed in by the end of the first lap subsequently dropping to seventh place with a gap to the top five. As a result of effort and hard riding he had ghosted his way in to second place as been the his form in the last few rounds he increases his pace as the race goes on making a charge in the last lap which he did catching Will Hodgson on the last lap.

Series promoter Ian Newton: “I have watched Ben develop over the last 12 months from a lad learning his racecraft to becoming an outstanding rider in this very competitive Championship, calculating the odds of getting in the right place at the right time as a result of clever riding, you cannot see him coming he just ghosts his way to the front, impresses the people watching the races including his fellow competitors.”

The Sunday races where bit closer with on form young Scotsman and Aprilia Superteen Champion Lewis Rollo taking two wins in merciless racing from start to finish Ben Luxton taking runner up spots in both to take a 126 point lead to Anglesey in late August.
