Luxton on impressive form at Thundersport Rockingham

Stockport teenager Ben Luxton was in scintillating form on his JDF 450 RRV Aprilia at the Northamptonshire circuit over the weekend.

A series regular in the Thundersport GB Aprilia RRV 450 Challenge since the beginning of 2012 Luxton showed his true form by taking pole position in the RRV Challenge and open 650-series setting stunning times under the lap records for both classes.

Luxton showed it was no fluke by pushing series championship leader David Allingham and on form 2012 Superteen Champion Lewis Rollo to the limit to claim his first podium in the RRV Challenge on Saturday, with an impressive second place just 0.370 sec behind winner Lewis Rollo.

Luxton led from the start and continued to lead the race for the first four laps Lewis Rollo nipped past on lap five of the eight lap race to take the win from Luxton by just 0.370 with Championship leader David Allingham in third place taking the final podium position.

The first RRV450 race on Sunday was set to be a tough race as the lap record was taken by David Allingham the previous day to record the first sub 1:29 lap of the technical Rockingham circuit by an RRV450.

Will Hodgson got a scorching start and led the race for three laps before taking a tumble, David Alingham taking over the lead vacated by Hodgson. Luxton made a charge on lap six putting in consistently fast laps to overhaul Allingham with a well executed pass on the start finish straight to nip in front on the very fast left hander. From this point in the race Luxton was in command and pulled away from Allingham to take his first win by 1.38 secs with Ross Twyman taking third spot.

Luxton said after the race: “I felt from the start of the weekend I could do well but did not expect two pole positions and not stepping off the podium all weekend, with good results also in the open 650 series most of the 450 RRV boys run in, last year we had a few problems with the bike and never really got going all season. We approached John Davies of JDF for support for 2013 and we have moved forward with a different way of working and thinking about racing."
