Mallory closure 'would be massive loss' says Walker

British Superbike veteran Chris Walker says if Mallory Park is forced to close its doors, it would be a massive loss to motorsport and many local businesses that thrive because of the circuit.

The track's future is due to be decided at a public meeting of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council tomorrow night, which Walker will attend, due to a row over the number of days it is allowed to operate.

"From a personal point of view, my first race was at Mallory Park and my first national win too. I was racing at the Mallory Park Race of the Year from 1995 to 2006," said Walker.

"I have also been a spectator, attending race meetings with my father and grandfather before I started racing. Now I run a business from Mallory Park, The Chris Walker Race School which brings up to 150 people to the circuit for each event. If Mallory was to close, this would also impact on the local businesses in the area.

"Mallory has a huge heritage attached to the circuit, and is one of the most picturesque and spectator friendly tracks. There has been huge investment made to the track over the last year, it would be a massive loss to so many if the circuit was to close.

"I will personally be attending the public meeting at the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council at six-thirty in the Council Chambers 'De Montfort Suite'."
