Team Co-ordit R1 Yamaha pairing Richard Cooper and Phil Bevan will the pick of the riders in the superbike classes. It is safe to say that Cooper will be looking to add to his string of 10 wins so far in 2009. Bevan will want to get the better of his team mate more that anyone else.
They will have some impressive company to beat though, as Lee Keeble, Mark Compton, Michael Blank, Chris Pope, Paul Shook and Shaun Hennessey are all on the superbike entry list. Keeble has made it very clear he is after the wins too, and as last year proved, loves this Snetterton circuit so won’t be too far away when the Progressive Solutions Powerbike and Phoenix Open are on the grid.
Pope and Hennessey are in the racing form of their lives so who knows what they can do when they are let loose on the 1.95 mile circuit. You can never count out Mark Compton when it comes to race day, while NG lap record holder Michael Blank is hoping to be fit after suffering a shoulder injury at Pembrey just 3 weeks ago.
125GP class rider Corey Lewis has started his 2009 campaign in winning form… just the way he ended ’08. He certainly seems to be having fun with his racing so far this year as he battles with Rowan Miller, last years F125 champ. Rowan, is still just 13 years old but has now moved into the 125GP class and is currently an impressive 2nd in the championship.
Chris Beverley is now back to full health as is his CBR 400 Honda in the F400 class. He already looks well on target for retaining the silverware he won in 2008
Josh Day, Adam Tempest, Rich Bearcroft, Tim Woodhouse, Rich Bearcroft and Freddie Nickless have George White 600 class glory in their minds…although Day has had the edge so far this year on his R6 Yamaha. Bearcroft, class runner up in ‘07 will want to forget about the massive crash he had here at Snetterton last year…. a crash which ruled him out for most of the rest of the season. So far this year Bearcroft along with Tim Woodhouse are making good use of their GSXR Suzuki ‘s.
Adrian Shaw grabbed all the headlines at Pembrey last time out on his GSXR1000 in the Metzeler/DTR Streetstock with Hillary Phillips and Peter Carr wanting revenge this time out.
Rich Troth, the ’08 400 Streetstock champion made a successful switch to the Big C Mini Twins on his SV650 at Pembrey, but went away from Brands last time out with no extra points and a bent bike. He held back a spirited challenge from Stephen Sweetman and impressive novice Scott Witts first time out but Sweetman came back to grab glory at Pembrey. While in turn last years Mini Twin champ Darryl Alexander has moved up into the Sound of Thunder and spend the whole weekend at Brands fighting on track with two former SoT champions Adam Tempest and Andy Peck. All are capable of the win here.
Although Phil Dongworth and Gary Partridge have take al the Sidecar wins so far, they are not expected to do the full NG series…. Or so the class opposition hope !. That should leave the way open for Ian Drowne and Ken Edwards or Rod Robinson and Shelley Smithies to hit the front. Drowne tasted victory in the qualifier at Pembrey and would like to take the points scoring ride here.
