Team Northern Ireland has won the inaugural MotoSix, which is a Six Nations for Motorcycles, at a cool but sunny Donington Park today.
Alastair Seeley, Superstock rider and pure road racer, dominated the proceedings by taking both 600cc wins and one 1000cc win. His main rival was England’s Richard Cooper who pushed him hard in the 1000cc class. Seeley out dragged him to the line in the first 1000 race winning by 0.07secs.
The second 1000cc race went to Cooper who made it clear it was his turn to win. He pushed hard to get by the Ulsterman and pull a small gap of 1.14secs which was enough to take the win.
In the sidecar class it was Bryan Peddar and Rod Steadman who took a double win for England. The Northern Ireland team picked up two second places with John Clarke and Stuart Graham. And it was the Scottish pairing of Scott Lawrie and James Connel who took double third place.
Points were allocated from one down to 36 with the higher placed riders getting the lower points so the team with the least points wins.
Northern Ireland’s winning rider Seeley said: “It has been a really good event and we put in a big team effort. I was able to play my trump card as I’ve plenty of experience at Donington Park. I was pleased with the two 600 wins and the one 1000 win and everyone brought it home as best they could. It all paid off and we have won the silverware.”
Kirk Jamison, Northern Ireland team captain, said: “It has been a fantastic event and really well organised by Donington Park and the ACU. I hope it goes from strength to strength. It was good to race on the GP circuit, the sun shone and we had some great racing.”
