Mallory Park's Race of the Year has been shuffled back to its original autumn date as Thundersport's Spring Cup event, with which it was to run, is massively oversubscribed.
Thundersport organisers have had to come to an arrangement with BARC, the promotors and owners of Mallory Park, to release them from their obligation to host the Race of the Year within their first championship weekend at the famous Midlands circuit.
It is now envisaged that that the Race of the Year itself will be included in the Mallory Park Festival of Motorsport in the Autumn, an event featuring two, three and four-wheeled tarmac track and off-road action, and a huge fireworks display to end the day.
"So many riders have committed to contesting the whole championship that we have had to make the Spring Cup on 13th - 15th March into a full three-day event in order to accomodate the whole programme of events without cutting down on the track time allocated to each class," said Thundersport boss Dave Stewart.
"We really wanted to include the Race of the Year as we had good committment from the teams and 17 confirmed entries from top quality outfits. However, with over 200 of our own riders having already committed to a full season, we had to ask BARC to release us from our agreement and come to an alternative arrangement."
Mallory Park boss John Ward added: "Although on the one hand we are disappointed to have to move the Race of the Year, we are delighted that Thundersport GB have flourished so spectacularly in just one year, particularly as they are based here at Mallory Park and are currently working with us on a number of other projects.
"Our Festival of Motorsport in the autumn is just one of those projects and we will both be aiming to make it into something to really end the season on a highpoint for both car and bike fans."
