Twelve-year-old Wayne Ryan begins his first full season of road racing as a strong contender to clinch the illustrious title of Aprilia Superteen Champion for 2009.
Ryan was too young to begin last year's campaign and despite missing four rounds, he managed to climb the points table to finish in a very respectable fifth place overall, taking three race wins along the way.
For this year, Ryan teams up with fellow 12-year-old rider Gary Winfield in the new TAG Racing team and although still pocket sized, Wayne stands tall as one of many favourites for this season’s title.
The juicy line up of talent on this year's grid leaves the mouth watering, with ten riders from last year's championship all worth mentioning, add to that the list of promising newcomers entering for the first time this year and you have yourself a grid full of future racing champions.
After a successful pre-season test at Mallory Park last Sunday, Wayne and his new team were able to set the bike up to suit his needs and give him the best possible chance of glory when they revisit the Leicestershire circuit in three weeks' time for round one of the Thundersport GB Championship.
The laid-back 12-year-old is unconcerned about his on circuit rivals and will look to start this year’s campaign just as he ended the last, with a win at this circuit.
“I can’t wait for the season to start now, the winter break seemed so long but I didn’t even feel rusty during testing on Sunday. My new team are great and have set up the bike really well, I’ve not raced a bike that feels as stable as this! Roll on round one,” said Ryan.
Still holding the record of the youngest ever rider to win an Aprilia Superteen race, Wayne Ryan and his new black and green machine, will be well worth looking out for throughout 2009.
