THUNDERSPORT BRANDS: IT'S GOING TO BE SPECIAL

Brands Hatch is next up and there will be a lot of riders 'relieved' to have the 'saarf east' setting as their next challenge too. Certainly as a rider, I used to feel a warm sensation as I pulled out of the pits and headed into Paddock Hill bend to begin a race weekend. I have spoken to many a rider who see this round as the start to their championship, a bit odd I guess considering we are already three rounds in, but I kind of know what they mean.

So, what to expect? Firstly the J&S Superteen Championship. Having been an ex ‘Superteenie’ myself, this class holds a certain amount of sentimental value to me, it really does produce future stars and if this season's anything to go by, we will almost definitely have more than 'one to watch' by the time the prizes are awarded at the end of the season.

Three rounds and eight races in and we have seen 10 different riders stand on the podium at some point. You'd be a mad hatter to think that tally would remain the same too! The Nitro Newcomer races are giving riders some valuable track time and I really don't think it'll be too long before one or two of the lads from that pack start mixing it up with the top end of the J&S race. Hats off to Ian Newton and his hard working Aprilia team, not to mention J&S Accessories, Lloyd Lifestyle, Nitro and Dunlop for their commitments also.

To the rest, well the Junior Powerbike and Streetfighter races have become extremely popular, the huge numbers we have for this Brands weekend alone has seen Dave Stewart make an adjustment to the timetable and put in another race. Great news for the series and again, with a number of different riders hitting the podium in all classes, the points table is looking as long as a George Galloway 'bungee with no rope' sponsorship form.

GP1 comes to Brands with Rob Elsmere hoping to create a hurdle for the so far exquisite Gary May. This is Rob's 'home circuit' and if there were a prize for who had done the most laps around here from the grid, Elsmere would take the honours. No pressure though Rob eh?

GP2 is forming a tight championship battle at the moment. Dickinson, the favourite, currently lays 3rd behind a very consistent Northern Irish rider in Chris McAloran who is a whisker away from leader Mark Davies. Dicko and Davies are certainly not shy of a few laps around the circuit either so expect to see a dog fight!

In GP3, Ed Rendell's 4 wins from 5 races with a 3rd at Oulton, shows what winning and not binning races can do for your championship chances. Adam Dudley and Sam Shorrock could do with finding a 4 leaf clover in their packed lunch box this coming weekend. The pair appear to be the only 2 so far this season that can keep up with Rendell, but bad luck has dented their early challenges thus far. Dudley, to make matters a little harder, will be nursing a few broken bones in his foot in Round 4 after crashing at Cadwell.
Plus there's the small matter of William Dunlop's entry...
In the Sound of Thunder class, Lee Reveley had his Ducati planted at Cadwell and extended his Championship lead, Lee Cutts-Bland will certainly be hoping to close that gap down once the action begins on Saturday.

Thundersport 600 is Gary May, Gary May is Thundersport 600. He has won every race in the class and although I don't think it'll be forever, I struggle to imagine who can get him off that top spot in this class for Brands. Hoyles will improve this weekend I think after some confidence boosting set-up help on his R6 and Midwood is without doubt a talent, he is always there or thereabouts!

Finally to something new, we at Thundersport GB have teamed up with www.bikesportnews.com to create the Ladies Race. These girls are no slouches and I am very much looking forward to seeing some girl on girl action (no pun intended, I promise). It's sure to be a big talking point from the weekend and I wish all competitors the very best of luck, you'd be mad to miss it!

So that's it from me, oh actually.... time for a plug; Don't miss Jennie and I on the box after the weekend. Cadwell Park's awesome action is on Motors TV (Ch 413) on Monday 2nd June at 7pm.
