The Aprilia Dunlop Superteens and the Pirelli Superstock 600s are the two support classes racing under the Thundersport GB banner at this weekends World Superbike event at Donington Park.
Racing for championship points, the riders will be sharing the Derbyshire circuit with the likes of Spies, Haga, Rea and Cal Crutchlow, who himself started out in the famous Aprilia Superteen class back in 2000, going on to win the title in 2001 before moving onto a superstock 600 machine.
Currently leading the Aprilia Dunlop Superteen Championship is 15-year-old Northern Irish star Andy Reid, whose wins at a washed out Oulton Park earlier on this month extended his advantage over Connor Tagg who will be relieved to return to the circuit on which he made his first podium visit in 2008.
Another rider that’s enjoyed some good times at Donington is 13-year-old Wayne Ryan who won here last season and currently sits third overall. Both Connor and Wayne will be desperate to find some form and put some pressure on Reid who remains the only rider to have picked up points finishes in every race so far.
Other riders worth looking out for are Ben Gautrey, Matt Davies, Lee Jackson, Nick Anderson and Newcomer Danny Murphy. All five have been on the rostrum this season and are all capable of causing an upset or two as the stars of the future continue to fill the convey belt of talent that the Aprilia Superteens are so famous for doing.
In the Pirelli Superstock 600 class, Dan Miles will get a chance to view the Worlds best before mounting his machine in preparation to defend a comfortable 70 point lead that he has over team mate Ricky Simmonds. The duo took a one/two at Oulton Park and would dearly love to win again at the WSB support round.
The duo will have to be cautious however as Tom Gazzard and John Simpson lead a pack of very capable challengers that seems to up the anti as the rounds tick by.
With the half way point of the season upon us, there is no better time than the present for them to mount their title attack as the two ThundersportGB classes head to Donington Park this weekend.
