As with the World Superbike round earlier last month, Thundersport GB will be supporting the Moto GP at Donington this weekend for the second consecutive year with no less than seven classes showcasing their talent in front of the best riders and teams that the world has to offer.
The big news this weekend, though, is the factory Nortons will take part in GP1 for the first time with Lee and Joe Dickinson in the hotseats. The legendary rotary racers will continue in GP1 for the rest of the season.
The biggest racing weekend of the year visits Donington for possibly the final time of asking, and not only do the Thundersport GB riders get to be a part of it, but they also battle it out for 'double' Championship points at the Derbyshire circuit.
First out in action on the Day of Champions on Thursday will be the Thundersport 500's sponsored by Bridgestone, and Jonathan Harrison will be keen to keep his recent run of form going of six wins from six races. Senior rider John Butcher in second had a super start to the season, but since his two falls at Oulton Park, Harrison's been taking the points and the #49 machine is expected at the sharp end when they kick off the racing at Donington.
Next out will be the GiMoto Streetfighter A & B classes, as Jamie Wilkins looks to close the gap on Andy Denyer in the 'A' category. Denyer has taken an impressive 18 podiums from 18 races so far this season and although Wilkins has won 13 of the clashes, his consistency will need to shine through for the remainder of the season if he's to beat a persistent Denyer.
In the 'B' class, Barry Utting has made steady progress in recent rounds to top the points standings ahead of a battling Ian Popplewell, but the pair will both need to keep a weary eye on young Craig Morley, whose stunning form going into Donington, looks frighteningly quick.
The final race to take place on the Thursday will be the BSN.com Junior Powerbike affair, and 'Reckless' Rob Elsmere will be eager to extend his Championship lead over Sam Coventry and co. on his beautiful Aprilia RRV550. Alex Hutchinson is back though and he and his Kawasaki ZXR 400 were quick at Snetterton but with Hutch's experience at Donington, he'll surely become a quiet favourite.
On Friday, as the World 125cc, 250cc and Moto GP classes take to the circuit for the first time, qualifying will begin for the Thundersport races taking place on Saturday afternoon. The E2E Solutions GP3 Championship is still being topped by 13-year-old Fraser Rogers, but after a dramatic Snetterton, Sam Hornsey sits in close pursuit just behind him as the pair streak away from the chasing pack battling for third overall.
With a packed out grid though, who will stand tall in the 125GP class, as the Thundersport GP3 riders get to measure their lap times against the worlds best.
The final race of the day on Saturday will be for the illustrious Dunlop Aprilia Superteens as the likes of Bradley Smith, Danny Webb, James Toseland and Casey Stoner get a chance to watch the class that made them famous.
Northern Ireland's Andy Reid leads the championship at the moment, but with the likes of Wayne Ryan, Lee Jackson, Connor Tagg, Danny Murphy and Matt Davies all closing in on the Ulsterman at Snetterton, we could be in for an amazing race at the circuit that Reid has so far found difficult in his short career thus far.
Finally, the two classes sharing the Sunday's racing with the big boys are the GP1 class and the Formula 600s. Peter Baker leads the CIA Bike Insurance GP1 championship after taking the treble at Snetterton, but Gary May runs well here at Donington, and provided he can shrug off his hand injury, he and Rob Hoyles will both be keen to stop Bakers charge in the title race. Look out for Stuart Hall too, after he managed his first podiums of the year in Norfolk.
Possibly the final motorcycle race to take place at the world famous Donington Park circuit will be the Metzeler Formula 600's as Michael Price looks to win his third race of the season and take the overall lead of the Championship away from Gary May who no longer races in the class.
Darryl Cox and Chris Mort will always be in the hunt, but at this stage of the season, will anybody else shine through to win the last two wheeled chase to take place on the Leicestershire circuit?
