THUNDERSPORT PEMBREY: MORE SUCCESS FOR BURMAN

Maintaining her rich run of form, Sam Burman has collected a further three top ten finishes riding her Bartonfield Honda RS125 in the E2E Solutions Thundersport GP3 Championship last weekend at Pembrey.

Returning to the circuit with confidence after a recent visit with the NGRRC, Burman was in determined mood, as she took to the track in blustery conditions for qualifying. Despite some handling issues, mainly with chatter, she would be placed 15th after the first session, with some adjustments to be made to the suspension before final qualifying. With the alterations complete, Burman made further progress and moved up to ninth position on the grid for the weekend’s races.

Lining up on the full grid of some 30 riders for the 16 lap superpole race, Burman made a good start as the field headed into the tight first corner. Unfortunately, in taking avoiding action due to incidents ahead, Burman would lose touch with the leading group of riders, but would have a determined ride pulling through a group to move up to seventh position. However, the race was stopped due to an incident involving Rowan Miller. After a delay to attend to Miller at trackside, the race was re-started, with the grid positions to be decided from the finishing order of what was effectively part one of the race.

Taking up her new grid position on row two for the remaining laps, Burman carried on where she had left off in the earlier part, creeping up to sixth place at the chequered flag. She would later be confirmed as seventh place overall due to combining the aggregate race times.

Sunday proved to be more settled weather-wise, and Burman was content with morning warm-up after making changes to the steering. As in the first race, she made a good start, but lost her advantage, getting boxed in at the first corner. Coming through a group, Burman would be gradually catching the leading group, having an exciting battle with Andy Reid along the way, just losing out, as he gained a small advantage towards the end of the race, leaving Burman to finish in eighth place.

The concluding race of the weekend witnessed another good start and another exciting battle, this time with Jason Douglas and Adam Robinson. Most riders were lapping quicker than previously, including Burman whose lap times were consistent at 1 minute 3 seconds. At the conclusion of the race she would net herself another top ten point’s haul, this time in tenth position.

“It’s been another pretty good weekend at Pembrey, I was pleased with the top ten finishes in a competitive field, and felt that I could have run with the leading group if I could have just got away with them at the start," said Burman.

Sam Burman continues her hectic schedule next weekend 16-17 May at Snetterton, competing in the NGRRC Championships onboard the Bartonfield Ltd, Honda RS125, and the Penrith Motorcycles Yamaha TZ250.

The following weekend the ACU National 250cc Championship enters the British Superbike arena, as support for the Donington Park round over the Bank Holiday weekend of 24-25 May.
