THUNDERSPORT SNETTERTON: WEEKEND PREVIEW

Many riders over the years have formed a love/hate relationship with Snetterton, it's fast straights usually favour the bigger bikes but with excellent passing opportunities into the esses and russells, it also gives a chance to those that like to brake late a real chance.

With the J&S Superteen and GP2 class having only just got back from their Moto GP experience, there may well be some tired bodies out on track so will it be survival of the fittest?

With the superteens aged between 12-18 I expect them to bounce straight back into action without any aches and pains, the Championship itself is starting to form a release group in Frazer Rogers, Adam Shelton, Bruce Winfield and Josh Harland. They are edging away ever so slightly from the rest but that's not to say that the races will only include the four of them. With riders right through the group achieving personal best finishes, there are another nine or ten riders to consider that could upset the current pattern and the Championship is certainly not over for anyone when you consider that this weekend alone, a possible 100 points are up for grabs.

In GP1, Reckless Rob Elsmere who was an active member of our Moto GP team last week, will be hoping his re-built bike can reward him with another victory on the back of his first win in the series last time out at Brands. Gary May of course after a three week break will be chomping at the bit to get out and extend his Championship lead, the ever impressive May has only missed two wins in the class this season but will his Yamaha R6 have the grunt of the bigger bikes around him? I don't think so.
With the rest of his competitors in the top ten all on 1000cc machines, Gary will be relying on his brakes and corner speed to keep his domination going.

Gary will be relieved not to be amongst quite as much power in the Thundersport 600 class though, with Jenny Tinmouth pipping May to the post at Brands, his 100% record in the class came to an end, the 64 point advantage he has over Rob Hoyles (another Moto GP helper of ours) sounds like a big margin, but even Rob will tell you that all it takes is one result and things can change. Hoyles is up for this weekend and will look to close the gap on his rival with Ashley Midwood who sits third, possibly making a return after missing out at Brands.

Onto the two strokes and in GP2, Lee Dickinson will be hoping he can make a fast return to the top after a Donington he'll look to forget. A tangle with Will Dunlop in last Saturday's race put him out of contention in not just the first race but prevented him from even starting Sunday's race.
Mark 'The Dog' Davies was the man to take full advantage of his absence too, two fantastic wins at Donington gives the Barnsley man a 48 point advantage over Dicko and considering Davies had never ridden a 250GP bike before this season, his return back on track after a long break is proving well worth while!

GP3 has gifted us of some great racing so far this season, Ed Rendell's early domination came crashing back down to earth at Brands for Round 4 when he only managed 20 from the 100 points on offer. Despite this, Rendell still maintains a 43 point lead over 14 year old Tom Weeden (#11 pictured above) who will be looking to take silverware this weekend, despite a heavy crash at Mallory which resulted in him injuring his hand. Weeden was delighted to take his first GP3 Cup wins at Brands and now seems hungry for more. Adam Dudley (#85 pictured above), whose luck had seemed at an all time low at Brands, will be coming to Snetterton on a high after success at other circuits has given Dudley a new boost of confidence. Expect challenges from Shorrock, Dobson and Edwards also.

With more Sound of Thunder riders adding their names to the points table as the season progresses, we will soon have quite a train forming for trophies in this category, Lee Reveley has been unstoppable in recent rounds and has fired his Ducati well inside the top ten of the GP1 class quite a few times too. His nearest rival is Lee Cutts-Bland, since his win at Oulton Park, Lee has found a lot of confidence and he will be knocking on the door for win number two in no time.

The Streetfighter A Class started out with a familiar pattern, Iddon and yet more Iddon. The Supermoto star rifled in a handful of victories early on in the season until Cadwell Park which he missed due to other commitments, enter Hodgson and Joy. Steve Hodgson (yet another helper at the British Grand Prix) has been playing cat and mouse with Steve Joy for the points whilst Iddon remained absent. The pair are split by one point, of course hearing the news that a Championship contender could be out of the running can sometimes be heard as a positive, but unfortunately due to an accident two weeks ago, Christian Iddon will not be returning to any action for at least two months. On Speaking to Steve Hodgson, he was gutted to hear the news that Iddon was hurt as he saw the young man as someone to try and catch and learn from. We all wish Christian a speedy recovery although it seems his Championship chances are now all but gone.

Another recent crasher but luckily this time not so serious, is Streetfighter B Class Championship leader Sam Read. Sam comes to his home circuit this weekend with 30 points separating him, John Hardwicke in second and Phil Page in third. The trio have wowed us with some classic racing action so far this year and expect this round to be no different. Read is currently making a quick recovery from a crash at Donington last week whilst trying a Moto 450 out, we hope to see him back to his best come Saturday.
Whilst on the subject of Moto 450's, Championship leader Will Hodgson and Rob McNealy both mixed it up with the GP2 class at Donington in front of the crowds. With Will's bike hitting the dirt a couple of times and an unfortunate crash for McNealy on the Saturday, we hope to see both back in action for our Norfolk round.

Finally to our Junior Powerbikes, Current Championship leader Tony Coombs will be looking to keep up his consistency if he wants to extend his 45 point lead over a persistent South African, Clinton De Tarnowsky has been the man on the move recently and podium finishes are the next step that Clint will look to take whilst Coombs tries to regain his early season form.
With a number of entrants having won races in this class, it would take a brave man to predict a victor for this one. Surprisingly, I will sit on the fence!
