It is with deep regret that the Triumph Triple Challenge reports the death of one of its 2008 riders, rising Latvian motorcycle racer Aleksandrs Bekers last weekend.
 
The 19 year-old was tragically killed while racing in his home town of Riga, where he had been competing in the B-600 class of the Latvian series. It has been reported that he unfortunately lost control while negotiating a 200kph complex and was thrown into the barriers and never regained consciousness.
 
As 2005 Latvian scooter champion, Aleksandrs had entered the Triumph Triple Challenge this season alongside his university studies at Bath. He had already started to show his talent, picking up his first ever podium result in the UK by taking a superb second place at the last round at Silverstone at the end of May.
 
Despite his brief time in the UK racing paddock, Aleks was well respected member of the 2008 TTC grid and had shown the pace and maturity that would undoubtedly moved him further up the motorcycle racing ladder in years to come. Everyone involved in the Triumph Triple Challenge is saddened by this tragic loss and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends, both in the UK and in Latvia at this time.
 
A mark of respect by the Triumph Triple Challenge riders and organizers will be paid to Aleksandr at the next round of the series at Cadwell Park at the end of June.
