Triumph Triple Challenge: Jones doubles up at Brands Hatch

Luke Jones took both race wins and further extended his Championship lead at round six of the Triumph Triple Challenge at Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend.

Ashley Beech once again found himself having to settle for second place in both races with Tommy Dale completing the podium in third for the two races.

The first race of the weekend took place on the shorter 1.2 miles Brands Hatch Indy circuit, and once again produced some excellent racing. Beech took a very close pole position ahead of Jones by just 0.059secs. When the lights went out it was Jones who jumped straight into the lead with Beech being left to give chase. They steadily gapped the rest of the field coming over the line just 0.139secs apart but 11.877secs ahead of the rest.

Whilst the leading duo fought it out there was an epic battle going on behind them for third place. Freddy Pett aboard his M40 Triumph, Tommy Dale on the Power2Connect/11KV machine, Tom Weeden and Pete Ward were swapping positions and paint work for the final podium place.

It was Tommy Dale who nailed it thanks to a back-marker on the last corner which the battling group had to find their way around. Pett lost his drive and was completely overhauled by Dale, Weeden and Ward.

Race two was held on the 2.4 mile GP Circuit and the two front runners gapped the pack immediately. Jones beat Beech to the line by 0.033secs and they came home 15.35secs ahead of Dale. There was a big battle further down the field as Ward worked his way through from eighth place off the line to finish in fourth place.

Jones now leads by 54 points ahead of Ashley Beech who moves to second overall in the Championship.

Jones said: “I got a good start and was trying to stay consistent as I knew I’d have Ash behind me the whole race. I braked as late as I could, made no mistakes and made it as tough as possible to get past. I saw his front wheel a few times but I’m pleased to extend my Championship led.”

Beech said: “My plan was the same and that was to get a good start and do what Luke did! I showed him my front wheel a few times to put him under pressure but he kept his cool. I’m now second in the Championship so I’ll just keep chipping away.”

Dale said: “It was a bit of a lonely race. I got off the line and tried to keep with the front two. I managed to maintain the gap but I wasn’t able to go with them, they both rode really well. I’d like to thank Power2connect, 11KV and my Dad.”

The Triumph Triple Challenge will be back on track at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on 27th-29th Augus
