Bling or Technique?

Having raced every single season now for over 28 years, I think I understand what it takes to post a quick lap - and having learnt the hard way, that is by taking years (and a few British Championship titles) and spending lots of cash, I know what will and won’t go towards helping to achieve it.

So, having a top-flight machine, costing a fortune with every fashionable ‘must have’ item on board might help you - but to be honest, if the guy ‘keeping the wire tight’ isn’t quite up to the job – the quick lap isn’t going to happen.

It’s obvious the rider plays an important part of the equation but how much?
I reckon the rider, or importantly, what is going on in his or her head is a most vital part of getting that elusive ‘hot lap’.

I could endlessly drone on, boring you with tales of  “when I did this or when I did that” - but I definitely know that a rider with the ‘knowledge’ on a standard-ish machine will outperform the average rider on a ‘blinged up’ machine TEN times out of ten - no question!

Bearing in mind the current financial climate, finding the money for an expensive ‘hobby’ is going to be hard enough for most of us – more so for the people that don’t have thousands of pounds for ‘tasty goodies’ for their machines – or even for those riders lucky enough to have some backing, it only makes more sense to spend their money wisely and find the most direct route to success.

So for anyone who wants to improve their riding, coaching is the simple solution.

For a similar price to say, an exhaust system for your bike, that ultimately might not give you any power advantage or speed increase, that becomes scrap after a ‘get off’ - you could have a days training that would give you more confidence on your machine, improve your times and most importantly build essential skills that will stay with you as long as you ride.
