The blue riband Senior Manx Grand Prix failed to go ahead for only the second occasion in peace time (and foot-and-mouth) because of poor conditions on Friday.

Better weather was promised for the afternoon, but low cloud on the mountain and light showers of rain continued to dog attempts to run the original programme.

The Senior MGP has been hit by various problems in recent years, but the last abandonment was 2007. The 2008 race was held over two laps.
