2014 Classic TT: Anstey closes on Lougher’s two-stroke record

Valvoline Honda’s Bruce Anstey continued to top the Classic Formula One TT timesheets today and edged to within a gnat’s of Ian Lougher’s longstanding Isle of Man two-stroke lap record of 122.93mph.

Anstey’s second lap this evening was a mighty 122.888mph to better his time from Wednesday and is just shy of the Welshman’s best, which was set on a V-twin Honda NSR500 in the 1999 Senior TT.

Michael Dunlop’s best of 122.173mph was recorded on Wednesday as the 11-time TT winner reported a big gearbox problem on his lap this evening. The Ballymoney man lost a significant amount of time on the final sector and he later reported that his F1 machine was stuck in fourth gear on the run in from the Bungalow. He still managed to post a 120.505mph lap.
