Bruce Anstey wrapped up the 2014 Classic TT festival with a record-breaking victory in the Motorsport Merchandise Formula 1 race, the Kiwi setting a new lap record of almost 124mph on the Valvoline Racing/Padgetts Motorcycles 500cc Yamaha.
The victory proved any doubters wrong in terms of the ex-Grand Prix bikes suitability to the rigours of the Mountain Course and the 45-year old has now added the fastest ever lap by a two-stroke around the circuit to his haul of accolades.
"That's been the best race of the year and to ride and win on this bike around the course is like a dream come true," said Anstey, speaking to bikesportnews.com afterwards. "It was absolutely perfect and the bike didn't miss a beat. I was a bit concerned by the strong wind with the bike being so light in case it pushed me wide in the corners but I didn't have any issues at all. The bike was perfect, the Dunlop tyres were perfect and i had a smile on my face the whole way round."
"We didn't have concerns with the bike firing up after the pit stop and we had a decent amount of fuel on board each time as the bike felt better with a heavier tank of fuel. We ran the bike a little safe to make sure we'd have no problems doing the race distance and I was really happy with the speeds we did."
