2015 Dundrod 150: Anstey takes Superbike win as Martin crashes

Valvoline Padgett’s Honda’s Bruce Anstey took victory in today’s Dundrod 150 Superbike after leader and poleman Guy Martin crashed at Ireland.

Martin had a slender lead over the Kiwi but slipped off his Tyco BMW. He sustained a bang on the head but nothing serious and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Honda’s Conor Cummins took second place while Peter Hickman rode his Superstock-spec Briggs-backed BMW S1000RR to the final podium spot.

“Guy was flying. I was having a good run with him and I was going to give it a go on the last lap,” said Anstey.

“I knew where he was faster than me and where I was slow, but then he was just on the gas a bit too early and he just high-sided off, so it was a bit of a shame. It was a really good race up to then, I was really enjoying it.”

Martin had taken the lead on his Tyco BMW on the second lap from Ian Hutchinson but as the race wore on Anstey, who was in fourth at the end of the first lap, gradually reeled him in and less than half a second split the duo going into the final lap.

Anstey had the fastest lap of the race at 133.492mph on the Valvoline Racing/Padgetts Honda but the anticipated final lap showdown didn’t materialise as Martin highsided on the way out of Ireland’s bringing out the red flag. The Lincolnshire rider was taken to hospital after suffering a bang to the head although no bones were broken

Hutchinson’s hopes of another International race win ended on the third lap with a broken gear linkage with Lee Johnston also pulling in on the same lap and that left Peter Hickman and Conor Cummins battling it out for the final podium spot.

Both lapped in excess of 132mph, with Hickman’s lap of 132.413mph quicker than the existing Superstock lap record, but the experience of Cummins shone through and with Martin out, he got second with Hickman in third.

Slightly further back, Dan Kneen had an excellent ride into fourth whilst a four-rider battle for fifth went the way of Keith Amor, just ahead of William Dunlop, Dean Harrison and Ivan Lintin. Russ Mountford and Seamus Elliott completed the top ten.
